Cohesive or compact soil may be successfully covered with three-dimensional anti-erosion biodegradable blankets on up to 30% gradient slopes. Advantages include partial water infiltration into the soil; when the biodegradable blanket saturates, water flows over its surface and is quickly and efficiently drained.

A further significant advantage is the the biodegradable blanket is flexible, molding itself over the soil with no cracks. The drainage system will remain intact even if movement of material or settling occurs. Sediment retainers may be used for sub-surface and deep drainage; they are flexible, do not clog and provide successful drainability.

The drainage system must be adequately designed; a mixed solution may be used, including biodegradable blanket-covered troughs and cement water drainage channels for optimal results.

1. Surface drainage applied sideways to the slope gradient using Bermalonga® D40 and Fibratextile Screen® 400BM.

2. Surface drainage channel covered with Fibrax Screen® 400BF.

3. Surface drainage channel covered with Sintemax Screen® 400TF.

4. Water channel covered with Tela Sintemax® 400TF.

5. Cement-covered channel with protection of adjacent areas using the Biotxtile Screen 500BP anti-erosion biodegradable blanket to avoid water penetration behind the channel.

6. Surface drainage channel covered with a three-dimensional coconut fiber anti-erosion biodegradable blanket (Sintemax Screen® 400TF).
